Spring Shoots

Yesterday morning there was a female blackbird on the balcony with a twig in her beak trying to get my attention. She was clearly looking for building materials. It brought a smile to my face because I'm at home all alone recovering from a winter stomach bug, (would have been more heart-warming if the bird hadn't also had a bit of plastic bag in her beak).

Unlike London, there are no pelicans, garden birds, squirrels or foxes in Milan, just one or two  less desirable species.

Spring shoots and shades of grey.

The other day A rang me.

"How are you?"

"I'm fine, but there's a man peeing and a nutria-rat the size of a cat cleaning it's teeth in a puddle."

"Ah. You're nearly home then."
